My first instrument was a Fender electric guitar but I focus most of my writing on instrumental/orchestral music. Most of my friends say my music reminds them of Video Game music. I don't know if that's because it's written in MIDI or because that's mainly the type of music I listen to...probably a bit of both. I've never taken any formal music lessons; I can read music to a point (though nowhere near as well as I should). I taught myself to play guitar back in high school and have since played in a couple of rock bands, the most recent one was a 5 piece instrumental band (3 guitars, bass, and drums) named Fauna. We wrote mostly original music but did cover "Wings" from Xenogears by Yasunori Mitsuda as well as the Terminator 2 theme music by Brad Feidel.
When I write music, rarely do I begin a piece with any concrete conception in my head of the overall sound/style/genre. I find that type of composing is too limiting. I normally will, with a clear mind, start plucking some notes on my guitar or keyboard until I stumble upon some melody or chord progression. I then build on that, letting those notes themselves influence where the subsequent passages will lead to. The exception to this rule is if I'm doing an arrangement of an existing piece as I did with Mitsuda's "June Mermaid" featured on this page.
NOTE OF IMPORTANCE: I do not sample any of my music! Everything is composed from scratch, including all percussion sections.
As any growing artist does, I appreciage any honest comments, feedback, and criticism. I will read any and all comments you may have on my music and would love to hear original music any other composers who have listened to my music would like to share. You may visit my MySpace page at www.myspace.com/cjpmusic or email me at cjpmusic@hotmail.com
Please keep checking back as I will add more music periodically. Thanks for listening.
***If you're computer can't display Japanese characters the name of the album is "Boku no Ongaku" which basically means "My Music". I'm nowhere near a fluent speaker in Japanese, but I'm studying it and am intrigued by the written language which is why I used it here.
